One of the three lovely 1940s satin wedding gowns I have listed.

1940s Satin Wedding Dress
These amazing leather boots are very similar to the one I wore for the 1920s White Lightning event earlier this spring. They have a really neat Celtic "swirl" design, very unusual.

Vintage Lace Up Brown Boots - 1920s to 1940s
So what's the secret surprise you ask? ;) I'm going to hold a giveaway for a special vintage/historical costume related gift for one lucky gal. How do you enter the giveaway? There are a couple of ways...

Leave a comment here! I want to know what your favorite vintage or historical clothing accessory is and why. OR What your favorite time period to wear or create clothing from is and why. (18th century, 19th century, 1920s, 1940s, etc. These questions will help me put together the surprise gift for the winner. :) )

Extra entries!
- Visit my shop and leave a comment here telling me what your favorite item is.
- Share an item, or this post, on Facebook, Pinterest, etc. Don't forget to leave a comment here as well!

  1. Sounds fun! My favorite vintage accessory... hats! I would also like to try vintage stockings sometime, but I don't think those are accessories... ;)
Oh, and my favorite era is the late 30's to the mid 50's.

Can't wait to see who wins and what they get!!!

P.S. my contact, just in case is brigid(dot)boyer(at)mac(dot)com

  2. My favorite piece from your shop would definitely have to be this dress:

    So excited!

    the Middle Sister and Singer

  3. My favourite period for clothing is the 1940s/50s because the shapes around that time are so flattering and feminine. Even if I don't want to wear a huge fluffy petticoat every day (I probably would given half a chance!) I can dress down with a pair of high waisted trousers and a blouse for instant 40s chic!

  4. I absolutely love hats. And brooches. You can be wearing something really plain, but a prwtty vintage brooch can transform it. My favourite era is definitely 1950s. Everything is so pretty and elegant.
    Thank you, Emily.

  5. This is haaaaard! However do I decide?!!

I think I'm going to have to combine both of your questions in my answer. My favorite period for clothing is the 1770s-1780s. The fabrics were gorgeous and the styles look so flattering on pretty much every body type. But my favorite accessory from that period are the hats, especially the big poofy ones with lots and lots of gauze and big bows. They're just so much fun! :-)

  6. It's so hard to pick a favorite era, I'm torn between the 1860's and the late 1930's/early 1940's.
I've got to go with the other comments and say that my favorite accessory is hats (and bonnets in the right period!)
    Happy Birthday Emily!

  7. I think my favorite period is the later 1910s. So many layers, such an interesting silhouette! But I'm also very attached to the 18th century, especially the 1780s and 1790s - I just like how I look in it!

  8. I think those two-tone 1940s shoes are my favorite things from your shop. They're adorable.

  9. You KNOW I'm a fiend for the 40s!!
And I can never get enough accessories, but Ive always been scared of hats. I buy them but havent worn them and one day I will have the perfect 40s tilt hat and figure out a way to make my hair look good with it.

  10. How fun! Hope nit is open internationally :)
My favourite era is 1950s. Just love that style! :)

  11. I love the style of the 1940s and early 1950s. My parents came from different parts of the country, and their family backgrounds were so different, but those decades have been important for both of the families, due to the war and many things that changes afterwards. I would have loved my grandparents had kept their stuff, but they threw away a lot, and I sadly look at photographs with lovely things on them... However, re-createing those eras means a lot to me, somehow it connects me to my grandparents and their history. I somehow feel "at home" there.

My favourite accessory is a crochet purse from the 1940s with a carved plastic handle. It looks rather small, but it's spacey enough for my phone, a lipstick and a small purse. Everything a lady needs.

  12. Happy Birthday! I continue to drool over your 1940's two-tone pumps, sigh, why did the wonderful women of years gone by have such tiny feet.... ;) The brown boots are simply gorgeous as well - and timeless - I have lived in my mum's late 60's brown & black heeled knee high boots since I 'borrowed' them at the end of high school - my cobbler banned me from ever dancing in them again after he replaced a snapped heel for the 2nd time - but they were heavenly & still come out for non-dancing occasions! (even on my MadMen photoshot!).
Your satin 40's wedding gowns are simply divine, my grandma got married in 1946 in one so very similar and I would have worn her dress in a heartbeat for my wedding, except that she'd borrowed it, so it was never available to pass down ;)
